Capo Muroto: un dente di squalo piantato nell'oceano. Con il suo profilo inconfondibile venne usato come riferimento dall'Enola Gay nel suo volo di morte verso Hiroshima.
Per la nostra molto più pacifica missione sembrava un traguardo remoto ed impossibile appena una settimana fa. E invece oggi ci siamo. Dopo la faticata di ieri pensavamo di essere stremati, ma oggi è bastato salire in sella per sentire che i muscoli si sciolgano e la pedalata sia fluida.
Sarà per il sorriso cordiale del proprietario del minshuku dove abbiamo dormito, ma non abbiamo fatica nelle gambe ed il cielo nuvoloso non ci preoccupa.
I primi 20 km sono gorogoro-ishi, così chiamati per il rumore delle onde che si infrangono sulle rocce, e che accompagnava gli henro nel tratto lungo la costa prima che costruissero la strada.
Poco prima di tempio 24 si trova una grotta affacciata sull'oceano, dove Kukai 19enne si ritirò a meditare. All'ingresso della grotta scambiamo qualche parola con Tawaguchi-san, un henro di Osaka e a cui diamo come osettai della cioccolata.
Tempio 24 si trova a 167 metri sul livello del mare (e della strada), in bici ci si sale con una serpentina di 1700 metri (gli ultimi 300 sono di scale), che percorriamo , quando va bene, a 6 km/h sempre col rapporto più basso. Facciamo ridere di gusto un henro che sta scendendo mentre noi saliamo, e a cui diciamo gambatte kudasai. Quando arriviamo in cima il sole fa capolino dalle nubi.
La scena si ripete a tempio 25, in 2 km saliamo a 140 metri. Poi pedaliamo fino a Nahari, dove riposeremo stanotte.

Cape Muroto, a shark thoot pierced into the ocean. With its unmistakable profile it served as landmark for the deadly fly of Enola Gay to Hiroshima.
One week ago it looked to us like a remote and unaccessible, and today we are there.
After the effort we put yesterday we are not sure how much energy we had left, but probably because of the minshuku owner's smile our lega are not tired and the cloudy sky doesn't worry us.
The first 20 km are gorogoro-ishi, after the sound of waves hitting the rocks on the coast, where the henroes had to walk before the road was built. Shortly before temple 24 there is a cave where Kukai retired for meditation as he was 19, and there we exchange some chat with Tawaguchi-san.
Temple 24 is 167 meters above the road and sea level, and by bike can be reached via a 1700 meters long road, which we cover with the lowest gear at max 6 km/h. We make a descending henro laugh, as we wish him gambatte while we struggle upwards. Once on the top the sun appears between the clouds.
Same scene at temple 25, 2 km to climb up 140 meters. Then we reach Nahari, where we will sleep tonight.
